Description
This form is used to Add Aspects or Edit Aspects. An Aspect is a characteristic of a Practice that can cause, in normal operation or upset mode, an impact to an environmental or other resource. Each Practice may have several Aspects. Typical Aspects of Practices operated on Navy installations include: spill/release, air release, hazardous material use, hazardous waste generation, solid waste generation, medical waste generation, noise, electricity use, fuel use, and physical presence (in environmentally sensitive locations).
Note: Practices must be entered into EMSWeb before adding their associated Aspects, and Locations must be entered before associated Practices can be added.
Definitions
- Aspect Type: The Aspect Type is a standardized Navy list of Aspects. This information is used to roll up data regarding Aspects at the Regional and Navy levels.
- Aspect Name: The Aspect Name is the organization's name for the Aspect. Any references to this Aspect in EMSWeb will be by the Aspect Name (and not the Aspect Type).
- Description: This voluntary field is for a description of the Aspect, if it is needed.
- Media: Specific areas of the environmental field typically defined according to environmental programs such as air, water, tanks -- which are the subject of regulatory concern and activities.
- Practice: A process, action, or function with environmental aspects that can have an impact on environmental resources. Practices may impact other resources as well. Practices include the unit processes used to complete mission functions (e.g., degreasing of parts, oil and lubricant changes, battery recharging, refrigerant capture and replacement to support vehicle maintenance, etc.) and their associated physical controls (e.g., berms, oil/water separators, or alarms). A practice often includes multiple processes, personnel, equipment, and materials.
- Priority: The priority (high, medium or low) is determined by the organization for their internal purposes.
- Is Significant: The EMS Appropriate Facility (and any sub-organizations) determines which Aspects are significant. By checking the "Is Significant" box, this individual Aspect for the related Practice is considered Significant.
