Definitions

  1. Equipment Name: The name of a piece of equipment or a resource that is used to support a practice.
  2. Description: This field is used to fully describe the equipment and make it distinct from similar pieces of equipment.
  3. Location: This field is used to select the Location (Building # or Area Name) of the Equipment/Resource.
  4. Location Details: Description of the Location as it relates to this Equipment
  5. Equipment Category: This voluntary drop down field categorizes equipment into different groups. These are the same equipment categories used by the OEL (Other Environmental Liabilities) database.
  6. Equipment Type: This is another way to categorize your equipment, consisting of commonly used equipment types. If you want to add an equipment type to the drop down menu, please contact the EMSWeb Administrator.
  7. Owner: The command, department, work center, tenant, or contractor responsible for day-to-day operation of the equipment or resource. Equipment owners have the authority to accomplish their mission by utilizing the equipment or resource, and thus, have responsibility for procedures and maintenance necessary to control the equipment or resource.
  8. Manager: The manager is responsible for the operation of the equipment or resource. The manager is often the primary POC for the equipment.
  9. Media: Specific areas of the environmental field typically defined according to environmental programs such as air, water, tanks -- which are the subject of regulatory concern and activities.
  10. Practice(s): A process, action, or function with environmental aspects that can have an impact on environmental resources. Practices may impact other resources as well. Practices include the unit processes used to complete mission functions (e.g., degreasing of parts, oil and lubricant changes, battery recharging, refrigerant capture and replacement to support vehicle maintenance, etc.) and their associated physical controls (e.g., berms, oil/water separators, or alarms). A Practice often includes multiple processes, personnel, equipment, and materials. Equipment or resources can be designated as supporting one or more Practices (each performed at an individual Location).

Note: The terms “owner” and “responsible party” do not necessarily mean that your organization is financially responsible for the specific piece of equipment when it fails or requires maintenance. For equipment assigned to your organization, you and all personnel associated with that equipment should be made aware of the potential environmental impacts related to each piece of equipment. If something does go wrong with equipment assigned to you, contact your environmental office or EMS Manager.
